LUIGI SORIO (Born in Verona in 1838, died in Milan on September 21, 1909) Luigi Sorio was born in Cerea, in the province of Verona, in 1838. His childhood and adolescence unfolded in the heart of the 19th-century Veneto, a period of great cultural and artistic vibrancy in the region. From a very young age, he showed a natural talent for drawing and painting. His training was profoundly marked by encounters with the great Venetian tradition of local masters. In 1869, Sorio won a competition organized by the Verona Academy with a portrait of Vittorio Emanuele II, obtaining the appointment as a professor at the same Academy. This official recognition cemented his affirmation as one of the best portraitists in the Veneto and gave him authority in the regional and national artistic landscape.
