Cabinet by Giuseppe Parvis, Second half of the 19th century

Cabinet. Measurements: cm. h. 195x49x115. Manufacture: Egyptian. Period: last quarter of the 19th century. Materials: carved walnut, ebony, ebonized wood, mother-of-pearl and bone inlay. Drawer in the base, above a compartment closed by three doors, above a top surmounted by a rich superstructure, elaborate pediment with carvings and openwork. The quality and richness of materials in Parvis's creations are highlighted. We note the use and mastery of every cabinetmaking technique: inlay, carving, turning, ebonizing, etc. At the bottom, a panel decorated with inlaid almonds forming a complex design, characteristic of Parvis's manufacture, and on the sides, the typical moucharabieh turnings.
