Gino Romiti (Livorno, May 5, 1881 – Livorno, September 19, 1967), nicknamed 'The painter of spring' for his love of all the gifts of nature and famous for his portraits depicting natural landscapes with the frequent presence of trees, pine forests and flowers. His art is also strongly influenced by his fellow citizen Giovanni Fattori, with whom he is known to have frequented. In 1920, together with other Livorno artists, he founded the Gruppo Labronico. He was also president of the Gruppo Labronico from 1943 to 1967. His artistic career began with his adhesion to the post-Macchiaioli school, of which he was an interesting exponent; later, he adopted the principles of the Divisionist movement in his works. In reality, in his life Gino Romiti would move between the currents of the time, finally creating a personal style towards the Thirties made of relaxed atmospheres and never excessive chromatic combinations with a precise pictorial plot, without forgetting the post-Macchiaioli approach and the vibrations of the Divisionist color. His thematic repertoire is mainly made up of subjects inspired by the pine forests and tamarisks of Ardenza, gardens, country roads and Livorno seascapes, in which the various reflections of light on the surface of the water are masterful, and represent the largest part of his production. In 1953 he was one of the promoters of the Premio Rotonda in Livorno and in 1959 he received the gold medal awarded to him by his city. He died in Livorno in 1967. The municipality of Livorno has named a street after him.
