BIBLIOGRAPHY
Cafiero Filippelli (Livorno, December 4, 1889 – February 25, 1973).
He attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, coming into contact with Giovanni Fattori and the master of Art Nouveau Galileo Chini.
A pupil of the sculptor Lorenzo Gori and the watercolorist Lorenzo Cecchi, he treasured all these lessons, developing a painting that proceeded along the furrow of the post-Macchiaiola tradition, mediated by broader cultural instancestance.
Specializing in interiors with artificial light, which highlight a soul and an intimist inclination, he was also able to range in en plein air painting, thus satisfying the stimuli that came to him from the art market.
His seascapes and landscapes, teeming with mainly female figures, reveal a marked aptitude for portraiture. The paintings from the fifties onwards lose their luster and undergo a significant reduction in prices.
Cafiero Filippelli participated in various editions of the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadrennials. He was a member of the Gruppo Labronico.
His son Silvano will be a communist politician, president of the Province of Livorno and cultural animator of the city of Livorno.
