The work is documented by the expertise of the art critic Jürgenw Winckelmann, drawn up in Bologna on December 15, 1990.
The work represents the mystical marriage of Saint Catherine, and focuses on the evocative ideas contained in the celebratory texts, always characterized by iconographic attributes such as the crown and the wheel of martyrdom placed at the foot of the Madonna. The thematic core of the painting is to be placed in the relationship of mystical union between the Holy Mother, heroic Virgin of Christianity, with the Christ Child and the learned Princess of Alexandria. The work presents one of the favorite themes of the Bolognese painter, and his clients, and was proposed by him with different compositional inventions.
