Pietro Melandri. Majolica compote dish.
Period: 20th century
Pietro Melandri, Faenza, July 25, 1885 – Faenza, October 24, 1976. Measurements: h. 7 cm, diameter 29 cm.
Polychrome majolica compote dish, depicting "Apollo's chariot" in the center, with a lobed rim decorated with branches and trunks in relief. The splendid chromatic rendering is accentuated by the monochrome red background of the central decoration and the naturalistic background of the rim, and the splendid use of luster. Melandri was among the undisputed masters of the revival of the luster technique. Perfect state of preservation.
