Capodimonte ceramic "Monkey Musician".
Period: Second half of the 19th century
Measures H x L x P
Capodimonte manufacture, 19th century. Crowned N mark. Measures cm h. 14 Polychrome porcelain. A little monkey sitting on a trunk is intent on playing a flute. The monkey statuettes, dressed in elaborate rococo clothing, exaggeratedly parody the upper social class of the 18th century and its attractions. Historical evidence suggests that the eccentric monkeys were particularly inspired by Count Brühl's chapel. The male monkeys take on the roles of musicians, while the female monkeys are portrayed as singers. Excellent condition.
