Author : Anonimo
Period: Early 19th century

Frederick William III of Prussia, 1770-1840. Oil painting on zinc. Circa 1820-30. Dimensions 23x18 cm, with original frame 32x26 cm. Excellent state of preservation. Zinc sheet was widely used as a support during the Restoration period. It was later abandoned in the second half of the 19th century due to the problems caused by the so-called zinc leprosy, a deterioration process that occurred on poorly preserved works. Dressed in uniform on the back of a rampant gray steed he indicates his own destiny. In the same representation of the famous general Napoleon on horseback by David. Prussian troops played a fundamental role in the victories against the French in 1813 and 1814, and the sovereign himself personally led the armies led by Prince Schwarzenberg, together with the Russian armies under the command of Alexander I of Russia and the Austrian armies of Francis II of Austria.
