"Diana" chryselephantine plate.

Signed C. Muller. Period and Liberty style. France manufacture. Diana holds her bow in her left hand, an arrow in her right hand and below the dog, her attribute together with the moon that adorns his forehead. The chryselephantine works combine ivory with metal, in this case melted and then silvered. The statuary is more common, widely executed in the late nineteenth century, plates such as this one are very rare. Charles Arthur Muller Flavigny-sur -Moselle 1868 / Paris - (Ec.Fr.) - Sculptor.
